As per the culture of Devamatha College, every academic year the Department of Commerce organizes an intercollege commerce and management fest “CASUS BELLI” .The event plays a vital role in moulding tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, managers and marketers through a variety of programmes.
This year the 16th edition of South India’s Commerce and management extravaganza “CASUS BELL 2K18” was hosted on 4th August 2018. The fest was inaugurated by Mr. Shaji.T.Joseph(The Chief Manager of South Indian Bank,Kanjirappaly).The fest had 466 participants from various colleges. It was executed with a total of 7 events planned and organised at its best quality: Business Quiz, Marketing Game, Corporate Survivor, Women of Wonder, IPL Auction, Online Dubsmash and the spot event. A new event was introduced this year, named “MONEY TRAIL”.It was introduced as a replacement of the event Finance Stalker. The main theme of the event was focused on Finance investment &Treasure hunt. The fest had prize money of 1, 23,000 for all the events in total. The overall championship was bagged by St Thomas College Pala for their wonderful performance.
The 15th edition of the prestigious South India level management fest Casus Belli was conducted on 5th August 2017. The fest was inaugurated by Dr Babu John (Director & Senior Physician, Appachy Vaidyan’s Ayurveda Hospital, Elanji). The fest had 455 participants from various colleges in and outside Kerala. This time there were 9 events in the event. Business Quiz, Marketing Game, Finance Stalker, Corporate Survivor, IPL – Auction, online photography, and online dub smash. A new event was introduced this year. It was “vanquisher”. It was an event brought in for giving a tremendous platform for women to perform. The fest had a prize money of Rs.1, 11,000 ,for all the events, in total. The overall trophy was bagged by Kristu Jyothi College, Bangalore for their wonderful performance.
The Fourth edition of Intra department fest of the commerce association, FINESSE HUNT, was held on March 8, 2018. The whole department was organised into 4 houses namely Electra, Oceanous, Odysseus and Europa. EUROPA under the leadership of Sivasankar and Greshma Gopi had won the Overall Championship. It was a close call with ELECTRA just behind them by 1 point. The events in the fest were Best Management team, Product Launch and Business Quiz.
A two day orientation programme was conducted for first year B.Com students on 13th and 14th of July 2017.The first session was on ‘Goal Setting” and was taken by Mr. Bansan Thomas George, Director of Synergen Consultants. The second session titled ‘Meet Yourself’ was taken by Mr. Jithin Joy, Alumni and Guest faculty of our department. As a part of entertainment the students was given an ice breaking session through games by Mr. Georgin Kurian, Ms. Aiswarya Bashi, Ms. Limy Maria Mathew, Ms. Jeesa George, Mr. M Arjun, Ms. Adithya Dinesh, Ms. Ashly Martin, Mr. Harikrishnan R -third year B.Com Students. The third session on ‘Career Guidance’ was conducted by Dr. K V Thomas, Director of Career Studies Centre Pala and Director B. Com, BCA Department (S. F) St. Thomas College Pala. The fourth session ‘Methods to Study’ was taken by Mr. Solomon Paily, 2nd rank holder, B.Com 2012-15 batch, currently working as Assistant Professor on Contract in CMS College, Kottayam. The last session ‘ Know your Department’ was taken by Mr. Georgin Kurian, Ms. Aiswarya Bashi, Ms. Ashly Martin, Ms. Jeesa George, Ms.Teresa John, Ms. Adithya Dinesh , Mr. Joppu Soben, Ms. Arathy Udayakumar -third year B.Com students.
A class about Tally in GST(GST integrated with tally)was conducted on 28/11/2017 by Tally Institute Pala(a professionally certified organisation of Tally ERP and SAP) in association with PG Department of Commerce. The class was taken by Mr Biju Varghese, Head of Tally Academy,Pala. The session was conducted to educate the students about how tally can be used in filing GST returns.The students of 2st year and 3rd year B.Com were the participants and it was a 1 hour long session.
It was a blessed day for the commerce department. The staff and student representatives of the department visited Mother Teresa Special School on 31 August, 2017. We celebrated Onam with the staff and wonderful students of the school. We were overwhelmed by the reception they gave to us. The students of the school had arranged cultural programmes. We were awestruck by the performances of the students such as Folk Dance, Cinematic and Fusion Dance, Solo Song, etc. We also raised an amount from the staff and students and gave it to the principal of the school.
